Drills and calibrations

This afternoon we had an abandon ship drill, during which one of our JNCC staff members - Jenny - got the opportunity to don an immersion suit. These are designed to keep you warm and dry should ever need to abandon ship into the water, though the sizing can vary!

Following the drill the night shift headed to bed to get a few hours sleep, whilst the day shift spent the evening completing calibrations for the multibeam systems. During the survey these systems will collect detailed information on the depth of the seabed and the different sediment types.
This screen shows multibeam data collection - spot the wreck!
